Quran and Women
When in Islam women had rights of ownership.
http://islamicrebuttals.blogspot.com/search/label/Polgymy%20in%20Islam
Yes the caliphs did have excessive partners and slave but this is not part of the practice of the original practice of the companions but this was due to the people in power. Yes many did unislamic things but there are many that did the right thing please read Imam Suyuti Khulfa Rashidoon and you can the good that some caliphs did like Umar ibn Abdulaziz II the great ummayyad caliph who ruled from 717-720.
No there is nothing in the Quran to justify going over the top and this is what they did.
The Quran is not against women consider this that the only woman named in the Quran is Mary mother of Jesus. She is more honoured in the Quran than the bible. There is a story that before she was born her mother made a prayer that she would sacrifice what she had in her belly to Allah/God. And Allah send her a baby girl. Think about this, this was Mary mother of Jesus.
Also the mother of Moses is also honoured as is the Queen Sheba who married the Prophet Suleman. The Quran also states that women will get what they deserve in Heaven as will men. The Quran states in the chapter called "The Woman" [4:32]
"Women shall have a benefit from what they earn. Ask, therefore, God [to give you] out of His bounty: behold, God has indeed full knowledge of everything."

Examples of women in Islam
He (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Heaven is below the feet of the mother."
He (peace and blessings of God be upon him) said when asked who was more worthy of companionship, mother or father? He said, "mother".
There was a woman who was known for being mentally unstable, she said that she wanted to speak to him, sometime. He (peace and blessings of God be upon him) said, "Sit on and street that you wish and I will sit with you."
Later she called him and he (peace and blessings of God be upon him) sat with her and listened to her.
During the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon) was wounded and bleeding heavily. He was preventing his blood from touching the ground when asked why he said, "The angels of wrath will come to these people if my blood touches the floor." A woman who was present in the battle came to his rescue and fought many men, she hamstringed many horsemen. She received several wounds that day and all she wanted to do was protect him. Later after the battle he was carried home and refused to enter his house for treatment until he heard the news that the woman who protected him was well and receiving treatment.
When his daughter would come into his gathering he would stand up, kiss her forehead and hand then sit her where he was sat.
There are so many examples, I am really sorry that I can't give you more.

Hijab
Do you remember the clothing of Nuns? See second link.
This is the same for Muslims women.
Remember that true beauty is not the skin, true beauty is whats in the heart. Beauty as they say is skin deep.

They have forgotten about Nuns, they cover up out of fear of God, why shouldn't others?
This goes back to the new testament where one of the strongest commands, is for a praying woman to cover her head. This is where the background comes from, I have added some interesting quotes.
Corinthians 11.6 "but every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head."
The Muslim woman who is covered for the sake of God is amongst the best dressed women on the planet!
While those who show themselves in various states, do it be attractive to men.
Its obvious which one is better.
Muslim women should also remember that whist they are wearing Hijab on, they are in a state of worship and will be rewarded for such. More than men in this case.

Women in Islam and covering up
A man has to cover less up but he is not allowed to look at women more than the first forgiven glance anymore than that and he is committing a sin. The men should cover up and many do.
The point of women covering themselves is for their own safety and not to attract the opposite gender. Now a woman can wear any set of clothes she wants as long as they cover themselves in a modest manner. This is by not showing their figure to strangers. This is also a Quranic injunction, so when a woman is covering herself she is in worship. This for her is an act of worship and even if the man did this he would not get the same reward as will, inshallah.
There are lots reasons to wear the Hijab most is a sign of chastity, its a sign of a righteous women who believes in God and covers herself. See the pictures of Mary (upon her peace).

Jewish orthodoxy states a married Jewish Muslim cannot show her hair to anyone other than her husband. So they wear wigs and or hats.

Marrying more than one woman
Generally, most Muslims are monogamous and there are no other relations outside this.
Marring more than one wife in a time can help support them in times and places where there would be no support.
After the second world war Germany legalised polygamy to solve the problem of unmarried single women.
I have heard an issue that a man married a second wife, after she fell in love with him and could not do without him. So they married and she was the second wife, this is by no means ideal but this solves the problem of adultery.

Women in Islam
There is a lot of misleading information out there. Some has been twisted by those who hate Islam. I wish I could say it another way but thats how it is.
Okay Women in Islam are elevated from being an object who wear scant clothing, to women who are modest in their clothing. What I mean is that women in Islam are dressed to impress God/Allah and not dressed to impress men.
Which is not always the case.
Many men treat women differently according to their dress.
A Hindi convert to Islam commented on this when she came to England, she was surprised the women were treated in this way and found it demeaning to women.
A lot of the bad press is from people who are culturally expressing there desire to control the woman, not from the religion. Many cases can be cited but you could find a pattern, if men hurt women that's because of their sicknesses.
It is true that a woman's testimony in court is worth half that of a man. This is because it is difficult to watch an evil action for a normal person and a woman is naturally squeamish. Also a woman is more likely to be cohereced into giving up here testimony than a man. But there are other cases that only a womans testimony can be accepted and not a mans which is the case of milk nursing or wet nursing. Also if she was a female Judge could she overrule other men's words.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be upon him) said, "Heaven is at the feet of your mothers." What this is understood as that Heaven is the service of mothers. This was not said about the father.
You see Islam gave the freedom for women to inherit in the 7th century something that Christianity was never able to do and only recently with the abandonment of Christianity have we seen women inherit.
There are many examples that I could bring seen as marriage is also a hot topic please read the following rights for women in a marriage. If you have anymore questions please contact me. I would recommend L. Ahmeds book on Women in Islam you can find it on Amazon.com.
For someone looking at it from the outside it might seem unequal but that because only some of the picture is shown, when you see the entire picture it makes a lot more sense.
Here are some marriage rights
I would just like to share some information about women’s rights that I have just found out. The woman has the right to have the similar levels of food as she had before she was married. In terms of quality.
He does not have to cook or clean for him. she can refuse and he would have to pay for someone to do it.
He can refuse to life with the in laws and demand her own house.
She has the right to take money from him if he is tight fisted.
She has the right to the mahr which is a wedding gift from the husband. If she wants a divorce she pays some of this back.
She cannot be forced into a marriage, if she is she can walk away.

The reward of Muslim women in paradise
"Women shall derive benefit from what they aquired. Ask, therefore, God [to give you] out of His bounty: behold, God has indeed full knowledge of everything."
So anyone thinks that women will not get anything and that the reward of men is better, better read the Quran and check himself. Women will be rewarded for they have aquired of good deeds and righteous actions. Do not let men fool you into thinking that somehow women are going to get less than men. This is simply not true read the verse and reflect.
Men and women will be rewarded appropriate for their good works in this world and a woman does a lot more than a man! So who do you think is going to get more reward? The one who does little or the one who does a lot? It's quite simple isn't? She will be rewarded for looking after her family, cooking, cleaning etc; if done with an sincere intention for God/Allah.
Don't you think that God/Allah is just and will give more to women, if they have done more? Yes of course he will. Anyone who does more will get more and anyone who does less will not be oppressed.
A righteous woman’s beauty in paradise is more than the beauty of the maidens in paradise. So much so that they will almost be jealous! If a maiden of paradise spat in the sea, all the seas would turn sweet, so what then would be the beauty of a righteous Muslim woman in heaven? Amazing!
One scholar told me that the rewards of the women in the Quran is implied because they are more bashful than a man. A man needs it to be spelt out to him and a woman can read between the lines.
"They shall have whatever they wish with their Lord." [Qur'an: Surat Zumar, 34]
In Paradise, if we wish for something, it will be there before us. No one will find anything less than everything they could possibly wish for; this includes women.
It can be a neglected question sometimes there is an emphasis on the reward of men and not on the reward of women. Therefore know, women that God is just and you will not be wronged; your reward is ample and awaiting you.

Women's reward in Paradise in Islam

As well as the answer below...
So your question is what will women get in paradise? A female teacher answers this question below:
"In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah. May the peace and blessings of Allah shower upon our Beloved Messenger, his family, companions, and those who follow them.
Dear questioner,
The Qur'an gives women spiritual parity with men in terms of their status before Allah, their religious obligations, and the recompense of their deeds. The pleasures of paradise, including pure and righteous companions, are not exclusively for men. Allah says in Surat al-Baqarah verse 25, "But give glad tidings to those who believe and work righteousness, that their portion is Gardens, beneath which rivers flow. Every time they are fed with fruits there-from, they say: "Why, this is what we were fed with before," for they are given things in similitude; and they have therein companions pure (and holy); and they abide therein (for ever)."
These "companions pure (and holy)" are called azwaj mutahhara in Arabic. Azwaj is the plural of zawj, which means mate, spouse, or companion. The promise in this verse is directed at the believers at large, both males and females, that they will have righteous spouses awaiting them in Paradise. Some scholars have said that if a believer so desires, she or he will be reunited with their spouse from earthly life.
Although the Qur'an mentions hur al-ain for men, or "wide-eyed virgins," this does not necessarily preclude the existence of handsome male companions for female believers.
And Allah knows best.
Umm Salah (Zaynab Ansari)"
